Stoneveil stood in the Central Mountains of northern Ognenstrof just west of the Elowen border, hidden within a secluded volcanic valley accessible only through steep-sided canyons and narrow mountain passages. The surrounding terrain was rugged and isolated, shaped by ancient volcanic activity that left the region covered in dark porous stone, jagged cliffs, and deep cavern systems running beneath the mountains.
The final approach to the valley wound through twisting canyons carved by narrow mountain streams over countless centuries. Black volcanic walls rose sharply on either side, limiting visibility and funneling travelers toward the concealed entrance. Then, almost without warning, the canyon opened into a broad valley protected naturally by the surrounding mountains.
Unlike Mushkinek’s other strongholds, Stoneveil relied as much on geology as construction. Fertile volcanic soil supported cultivated fields across the valley floor, while the true fortress extended deep into the mountain walls themselves. Large natural caverns had been expanded, reinforced, and transformed into a massive underground complex capable of housing thousands of followers. Heavy steel doors guarded the principal chambers, while polished black stone reflected torchlight throughout the deeper interior spaces.
To Herte, Stoneveil felt both impressive and deeply unsettling. The valley above projected peace and isolation, but beneath the mountains stretched an underground world alive with echoes, smoke, movement, and hidden activity. Rough upper caverns filled with bats, insects, and damp volcanic stone gradually gave way to polished halls, vaulted chambers, defensive passages, and carefully illuminated gathering spaces deeper within.
More than any other stronghold, Stoneveil gave Herte the impression that Mushkinek was not merely hiding from the kingdoms of Cendomvita. He was preparing to build something lasting beneath them.
