Weslading

Weslading is located on the western edge of Lake Orendil. This lake marks the westernmost of Cendomvita’s great inland waters. The Free Trade Zone sits directly on the border between Maghrabi and Hireotha. Its position places it between desert, mountain, and sea.

The city of Weslading rests in a steep and narrow valley. The valley floor lies at an altitude of nearly one mile. High ridges rise sharply on either side. This terrain makes the city extremely defensible. Entry routes are limited and easy to monitor. Movement through the long, narrow city takes time and effort. Travel favors patience and planning rather than speed.

Weslading’s elevation stands in contrast to its proximity to the Roaring Inlet on Cendomvita’s west coast. Despite the short distance to open water, the city experiences mountain conditions. Cold air flows down from higher ground. Coastal storms push inland with force. Weather shifts quickly. Fog, wind, and sudden rain shape daily life.

Weslading serves as the primary connection between the sea and the Maghrabi desert. Caravans move salt, metals, and manufactured goods inland. In return, desert products and rare materials move toward the coast. Roads leading into the city climb steeply. Wagons move slowly. Animals require careful handling.

The zone also benefits from its proximity to Maadigan. Select goods pass through Weslading to bypass longer coastal routes. This makes the city a valuable shortcut for specific trade flows between the northern and southern kingdoms. Weslading does not dominate commerce by volume. Instead, it controls access. Its strength lies in terrain, altitude, and restraint.
