Herte’s journey began with his disappearance from Maadigan at the height of his career. It ended as every life does, in death. What lay between those moments, however, reshaped the man he had once believed himself to be.
Mushkinek proved unpredictable. At times, he was cold, calculating, and cruel. At others, he offered mercy that felt undeserved and deeply unsettling. Throughout the ordeal, Herte struggled to reconcile his professional ambition with the demands of his conscience. Mushkinek conscripted him into what should have been the opportunity of a lifetime, yet the methods used to fulfill that mission steadily challenged Herte’s humanity.
Through violence, fear, and intimidation, Mushkinek sought to erode Herte’s moral resolve over time. Even so, Herte resisted in the only ways left available to him. His record became both testimony and warning, preserving evidence of Mushkinek’s depraved motives and the terrifying effectiveness of his designs.
In the end, despite everything taken from him, Herte remained unwilling to surrender the last measure of his humanity. Though he understood his own life was already forfeit, he still chose to save Mushkinek’s life.
