Alaric

Pronunciation: AH-LAY-RIK
Alias: King Alaric
Gender: Male
Home: Nation: ThalevirCendomvitaHireothaMaadigan

King Alaric ruled Hireotha for decades during a period marked by stability, economic growth, and predictable governance. He favored balance over reform and continuity over ambition, cultivating a realm that prospered through restraint rather than expansion. Trade flourished, institutions held, and most citizens knew his reign as one of quiet reliability.

That steadiness did not survive personal loss. The death of his wife in childbirth weakened his health, and the murder of his eldest son, Noam, shattered what remained of his resolve. News of Noam’s death removed Alaric from effective leadership almost entirely. He withdrew from governance, ceased regular participation in council, and became increasingly isolated within the palace. Though the crown remained his in name, its authority no longer rested with him.

As the Mushinek Uprising unfolded, Alaric did not lead Hireotha through crisis. That responsibility fell to his daughter, Ta’arah, who assumed command in practice if not yet in title. Advisors, generals, and ministers adjusted quickly, redirecting authority away from the king while preserving the appearance of continuity. Alaric did not resist this shift. Grief and illness left him incapable of doing so.

Before his withdrawal, Alaric governed pragmatically. He tolerated organized criminal guilds so long as they preserved order and did not challenge royal authority, believing stability mattered more than moral absolutism. That philosophy shaped the realm Ta’arah inherited.

Alaric’s first impression is therefore twofold. He is remembered as a king who built a stable kingdom, and as a man undone by loss when that stability was tested. His legacy lies not in how Hireotha survived the uprising, but in the conditions that made survival possible once he could no longer lead.
