Eslading has fallen. In the opening installment of Eslading’s Exiles, Hile and his household flee westward with what remains of their people, seeking sanctuary among a paramilitary band and a remnant of the city’s elite guard. They carry little beyond experience, obligation, and the knowledge that retreat has not erased the danger they left behind.

Refugees arrive daily, bringing fragments of loss, rumor, and fear. The camp grows, but cohesion does not follow automatically. Survival demands discipline, coordination, and restraint under pressure. The exiles establish a singular directive and accept its cost. They must withstand repeated Raven assaults, secure allies willing to risk retaliation, and warn the six kingdoms before distance hardens disbelief into denial.

Leadership shifts under strain. Old hierarchies fail to hold. Decisions once deferred now require immediacy, often without consensus or clarity. Each choice narrows future options. Hesitation proves as dangerous as action.

The records also reference a secondary objective, one never spoken openly. Long before Eslading fell, artifacts were hidden thousands of years earlier, shortly after the death of Messo. Their concealment shaped the balance of power that followed, though few remembered their existence, and fewer understood their purpose. The collapse of Eslading reopens those old silences. Knowledge resurfaces. Recovery becomes possible.

Pursuing what was buried carries risks that cannot be justified publicly. Ignoring it risks repeating the failures that led to collapse. On this broken path, the exiles confront trials that test loyalty, resolve, and moral alignment. They face realities once dismissed as unacceptable and learn that endurance often requires compromise.

This is the record of how survival became strategy, and how resistance first took shape.
